Chris Dyson Architects’ The Cooperage and Eleven Spitalfields Gallery have both been long-listed for the WAN Awards 2017.

The Cooperage has been long listed for the House of the Year Award. The building dates back to the early 1900s and the aspiration has been to preserve and celebrate all original elements, which had been neglected during previous renovation works in the 1990s.

Eleven Spitalfields has been long listed for Adaptive Reuse Award. Using the panelled staircase from the 1720s – the only element of the original house left intact – as a backbone and point of inspiration, Dyson reinvented the building, mixing 18th-century style with a bold contemporary aesthetic. The radical restoration involved rebuilding the front façade.

The shortlist will be announced on 19 September 2017.
